International Area Bay Area Summit 2023
The HKAES International Bay Area Summit 2023 is a 2-day high level conference with a theme on innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, and ecosystems aiming to explore ways of sustainable development of GBA. It will showcase a powerful line-up of speakers in the fields of advanced technologies, management, business and governance from New York, California and Tokyo Bay who will share with us their experience in development and operation of Bay Area economies under different technological, industrial and commercial environments. The Summit will enable participants to review the opportunities, challenges and cooperation between different Bay Area economies.

University Pitch Competition on Global Grand Challenges 2021-22
The University Pitch Competition on Global Grand Challenges 2021-22 was held successfully on 26 May 2022. The University of Hong Kong, with their project “PERfECT Viral Sewage Monitoring System” won the competition.

The First Academy Dinner in 2017
Prof. Daniel M. CHENG has kindly accepted the President’s invitation to attend the Academy Dinner as the Guest of Honour and to deliver a speech on “The Future of Engineering in HK – Industry 4.0 and Beyond 香港工程前景 – 工業4.0 +” to HKAES Fellows.
Prof. Cheng is currently the Chairman of Federation of Hong Kong Industries; Managing Director of Dunwell Enviro-Tech (Holdings) Ltd and also the President of Hong Kong Environmental Industry Association. He serves in many associations and Government Committees, and has played an advisory role in environmental protection policy & development areas in Hong Kong for over 15 years.

Dr Franklin Tong Fuk-kay has kindly accepted the President’s invitation to attend the Academy Dinner as the Guest of Honour and delivered a talk to Fellows. Dr Tong is the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, Hong Kong, China. Dr Tong was a Professor at the Information Engineering Department of CUHK from 1996 to 2004. He currently serves as Adjunct Professor of the same Department. Fellows attended the Academy Dinner and exchanged views with Dr Franklin Tong Fuk-kay.

Mrs Fanny LAW FAN Chiu-fun has kindly accepted the President’s invitation to be the Guest of Honour of the Second Academy Dinner 2016. Mrs Fanny LAW is a member of the Executive Council of the Government of the HKSAR and the Chairman of the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation. She delivered a speech at the Academy Dinner.
The Eleventh Guanghua Science and technology Award has concluded and two of the candidates nominated by HKAES have been honoured with this prestigious award. Prof. C C Chan, Fellow of HKAES and Prof. Patrick Yue, Professor of HKUST have won the“Engineering Award” and “Youth Award” respectively. The Executive Committee has decided to take the opportunity of this Second Academy Dinner to celebrate Prof. C C Chan’s success of being honoured with the Guanghua Science and Technology Award. To show his appreciation, Prof. Chan has kindly agreed to sponsor the dinner.
Fellows attended the Second Academy Dinner 2016 to exchange views with Mrs Fanny LAW on the development of innovation and technology industry in Hong Kong and to celebrate together with Prof. C C Chan his success of winning the Guanghua Award.

Prof. Shyy is the Provost and Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He has established world–wide reputation as an eminent researcher and educator in aerospace and mechanical engineering. The Second Academy Dinner in 2015
Mr. Nick Yang has been invited by the President’ to be the speaker as the Guest of Honour and delivered a talk to Fellows. Mr Yang was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited in 2003. He was the Executive Vice President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2010 to 2015. In March 2015, Mr Yang joined the Hong Kong SAR Government, serving as Advisor to the Chief Executive on Innovation and Technology, and Non-Official Member of the Executive Council.

Prof. Chow Wan Ki has been invited by the President to be the speaker of this Academy Dinner. Prof. Chow is the Chair Professor of Fire Engineering and Head of the Department of Building Services Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prof. Chow is also the Fellow of HKAES. Prof. Chow’s presentation was on“Fire Hazards to Watch in Big Dense Cities”.

Dr York Liao, SBS had kindly accepted the HKAES President’s invitation to be the Guest of Honour of the Academy Dinner and delivered a speech on “ Reflections on two decades of Innovation and Technology Initiatives in Hong Kong” in the dinner gathering. Dr York Liao, being a co-founder of Varitronix International Ltd in 1978, is a pioneering technology innovator and entrepreneur in Hong Kong. Having served or chaired in numerous government committees, he is also a prominent figure in the educational and innovation & technology sectors.
